Costa Rica: Uvita - Green Parrot Alarm Clocks

Once we left Corcovado we drove up the coast to Uvita. We needed to settle down after being on the road for so long. So we decided to make a longer stop and stay in Uvita for two weeks. The house was great and there was a pool with a view of the ocean.

Every morning a flock of green parrots would wake us up with their loud squawking and chirping.

And sometimes a small flock of Scarlet Macaws would drop by and feed on the beach figs.

There was an awesome market in Dominical which wasn't too far from our house. It sold all sorts of stuff like carvings, masks, weavings, food, bracelets, necklaces, dolls etc. We had lunch at a small taco shop near the water. We had went to the same place three years ago when we first visited Costa Rica and the food was just as delicious as I remembered. Once we ate lunch we walked around the market and went for a quick swim before heading back to the house.

We spent the two weeks doing lots of school, practicing baseball and swimming. The grocery stores in Uvita had limited options for vegetarians so Kaden, Mom, and I learned how to cook a whole bunch of things with rice and beans. And Sage went in the pool everyday and learned how to swim. Towards the end of the stay she was a natural at it.

We also went to Hacienda Baru wildlife refuge founded by Jack Ewing. He wrote a book called Monkeys are Made of Chocolate about how he reverted 300 hectares of banana plantations back into a second-growth rainforest/secondary rainforest which is now Hacienda Baru wildlife refuge. We took a beautiful walk through the rainforest and saw a sloth nestled up in a tree and a few huge Iguanas.

The last place we visited in Uvita was whale tail beach. One of Uvita's most famous destinations. It got its name because from above it looks exactly like a whale's tail. We walked up the narrow beach to the tip of the whale tail before doubling back. (Since we don't have a drone here's a photo from google maps to show the beach from above.)

It's funny how a place can feel like a home after a couple of weeks. Once we had to leave everyone was a little bummed but we were still excited for the adventures to come.
