Africa: Kenya into Tanzania

It was hard to leave Kibo that morning but after another great breakfast we packed our bags into the jeep and said good bye to the staff who had been so helpful. We drove through Amboseli one last time back past elephants, the old lodge and the natural bridge seeing all the water birds once again. It was a long drive and a bit rough in some spots but better than taking a real road.

When we finally did hit roads we came into a village on the border between the two countries. And we hadn't expected to see camels but there were a ton, all over the road and in the village. They were domesticated.

At the border Joe pulled into the parking lot and waited for us. I don't think anyone knew how long it was going to take but he had to wait a long time for us to come back out. There were a ton of lines we had to go through to get our visas and get our passports stamped but we finally finished. Then we went back out to say goodbye to Joe and hello to Latow, who would be our driver through Tanzania.

Once we had our bags in Latow's jeep (very similar to Joe's with six seats that fit us well), we were off down paved roads and heading towards Lake Manyara. It all looked very similar to drives through Kenya but Latow did spot a Kudu a ways off the road at one point not so far out of the town.

Latow had brought us boxed lunches to eat along the way and we stopped at a tourist store/restrooms that was the biggest we had seen with everything from carvings to tapestries. Sage got a small pottery bowl with a giraffe but other than that we just checked out everything.

Then it was only about an hour and a bit to the Serena Lodge on Lake Manyara. We were shown our rooms which were in cool buildings with thatched roofs. After getting settled we headed to the dining room for dinner.
