We packed up our backpacks at the Eco Lodge before getting on the boat one last time. We enjoyed breakfast as we went back up the river and got our last look at the crazy looking proboscis monkeys before leaving the beautiful rainforest. After another hour on the main river we made it back to the tiny dock we had left two days ago (it seemed like returning from another world) and got a taxi ride to the mini airport.
We couldn't get a flight straight to Bali so we had to take a connection flight in Jakarta. We rushed off the plane and ran across the airport to our next flight. We made it just in time.
We took another fairly short flight and landed in Bali. As you can probably guess Bali is a much bigger tourist destination than Borneo because of its turquoise waters and white sand beaches (even though in my opinion Borneo is better.) So the airport was much bigger and more modern with a ton of taxis. We picked one and soon arrived at a Bali resort.
Since it was offseason the resort was a lot cheaper so it fit into our travel budget. It was easily the nicest place we had ever stayed. We put our backpacks in our room and went to explore the resort. There were pools all over the resort and even a man made lagoon with a waterfall and sand at the bottom. Past all the pools there was a white sand beach and at least fifty beach chairs. We all relaxed after the travel we had done. Zaddek got over his "Montezuma's revenge" for good this time and relaxed with the rest of us. In the evening we headed over to a stage area and watched the fire spinner show. It was really cool because he was able to spin the double sided torch so fast it looked like a ring of fire. Then he would toss it in the air and catch it behind his back while keeping it spinning. After the show we had dinner at a restaurant by the beach (not the easiest place to get vegetarian but not as hard as Austria) and then headed back to our room, which was almost opposite from what we had just stayed in the night before, and fell to sleep immediately.
The next day Mom and Dad had a surprise for us - a complete day off! We didn't have anything booked and we got to spend the whole day at the beach or in the pools. After a relaxing morning not doing much but walking down the beach and swimming in the pools we had lunch by the beach and we got out our snorkel gear. We snorkelled out a ways to find starfish, sea slugs and crabs. That night for dinner we had ours in the room while Mom and Dad went out to a restaurant. It was a great day to reenergize after the first leg of our trip.
(This was a statue Dad found when he went for a walk down the beach.)
